2020 Release Notes: Release H

We are proud to announce that Release 2020 H is now live! We’ve improved social sharing, added email authenticated Content Tracks and Explore Pages for increased security and protection of confidential documents, added default fallbacks for Explore Page dynamic personalization and more!  We listened to you and implemented features and benefits you told us were important.

Improved Social Sharing Images and Descriptions

Social Sharing Images

When a Content Track is shared on a social media platform such as LinkedIn, PathFactory wasn’t always pulling thumbnail images (og:image) large enough to be shared as a LinkedIn full sized card format and would sometimes be shared as a mini card. We have updated the og:image we use to the highest resolution we have available for the asset being shared in the Content Track, to try to cause LinkedIn to share a full sized card whenever possible.

PathFactory also automatically pulls in the og:image a web page already uses when a web page is added to the Content Library. This means any time you are sharing a webpage in a Content Track on LinkedIn, you’ll want to be sure the web page’s og:image is high resolution and suitable for social media sharing.

Social Sharing Descriptions

When a Content Asset is added to the Content Library or is updated, you’ve always been able to define a description for the asset, however we now use this description as the description when the asset is shared on social media and is indexed by Search Engine Crawlers. We now populate the HTML meta description and og:description from the description within PathFactory of the asset being shared.

Email Authenticated Content Tracks and Explore Pages

Note: this feature has been updated since it was launched. It is now called Access Protection and is described in more detail in Access Protection Set-up and Configuration.

A common customer request has been to restrict access to a given Explore Page or Content Track – as some use these as ways to present confidential information such as proposals with pricing. This new feature allows you to require a user to authenticate via their email address to get access to a Content Track or Explore Page, ensuring the intended recipient(s) is the only one who can access the content.

To get started, first click on the settings cog in the top right corner of your PathFactory authoring environment, then click on Track Protection. This new Track Protection area allows you to define groups based on email address or email domain, and selectively restrict access to Content Tracks and Explore Pages based on one or more of these whitelisted groups.

image

After adding one or more groups within Track Protection, navigate to a Content Track or Explore Page you wish to restrict access to. You’ll notice a new item in the left side bar menu called Track Protection, which allows you to select one or more groups to apply protection to. When one or more groups is selected your Content Track or Explore Page automatically has it’s access restricted to those groups.

image

If you attempt to visit the Content Track or Explore Page you’ll notice you must enter an email address before you can proceed, as shown below. Please note the logo on this screen can be updated in the general tab of appearance settings, however the text cannot yet be updated. Expect the ability to update this text in a future release.

The user must then enter their email address. If their email address or email domain is in a group assigned to this Content Track or Explore Page then they will receive a confirmation email. When they follow the link they can gain access to the Content Track or Explore Page.

ABM Explore Page Dynamic Personalization Update

In our previous product release we added the ability to dynamically swap out logos and text on explore pages based on a visitor’s inferred company information. An update we’ve made to that functionality in this release is the ability to have a fallback default for text-based field merges. You can now add text in the following format to define a default fallback text string to be merged if we cannot determine the account of the visitor (based on 6sense Account Identification included for all PathFactory subscribers).

 {{company.name | default: default text goes here}} {{company.naics_description | default: default text goes here}} {{company.country | default: default text goes here}} {{company.address | default: default text goes here}} {{company.city | default: default text goes here}} {{company.country_iso_code | default: default text goes here}} {{company.phone | default: default text goes here}} {{company.domain | default: default text goes here}} {{company.state | default: default text goes here}} {{company.region | default: default text goes here}} {{company.zip | default: default text goes here}} {{company.employee_count | default: default text goes here}} {{company.employee_range | default: default text goes here}} {{company.industry | default: default text goes here}} {{company.sic | default: default text goes here}} {{company.revenue_range | default: default text goes here}} {{company.naics | default: default text goes here}} {{company.annual_revenue | default: default text goes here}} {{company.sic_description | default: default text goes here}}

As a reminder this new dynamic personalization functionality only works for those using our OEM 6sense account identification. Those customers using our Demandbase API integration are not yet supported for this functionality.

Previously the Email sharing button, which could be enabled on Content Tracks and Explore Pages would open a new modal window for the visitor to send an email sharing the Content Track or Explore Page with a recipient. Some PathFactory clients were reporting that in some cases, the email service we used was not correctly masking the sender’s email address.

To resolve this issue we’ve updated this functionality to simply compose a new email that a visitor can share via their own email client and account. Clicking this button now simply imposes a new email using mailto: functionality.

As a result of this change we’ve deprecated the “From Email Address” field within Links & Sharing Configuration. The “Email Message” field remains, and inserts the text defined in the field into the body of the email.

Support for all configured languages in External Code descriptions

External Code allows you to define a description of an External Code snippet text which can be localized and is presented if a code snippet requires cookie consent and cookie consent is turned on. Previously not all languages appeared in this dropdown menu, but we now allow you to select any language you currently have in use.

For more information on how this functionality works see Using External Code.

Improved Vidyard Support

Previously Vidyard provided their users video URLs in the format “embed.vidyard.com”, which PathFactory always supported, however more recently they switched over to using “share.vidyard.com”. We have included support for this new URL format. You’ll notice any videos you add to the PathFactory Content Library in the share.vidyard.com format automatically are detected as video, have their title and thumbnail image imported and work seamlessly in a Content Track.

Revert Vimeo Mute & Autoplay

In our previous release we updated all videos used within PathFactory to autoplay and mute upon a visitor entering a Content Track. As much as possible we want your videos to automatically play when a visitor hits one of your Content Tracks, and this is the preferred method to automatically play videos on a consistent basis. While most video players make it obvious that the video is muted and provide an easy method to unmute, we noticed with Vimeo this is not the case. While Vimeo videos were successfully autoplaying on mute after our update, we received feedback that to an end user it wasn’t clear a video was muted, it wasn’t clear how to unmute, and in some environments, the volume slider which is used to unmute was either not displayed or was overlapped by a promoter. As a result, we have reverted this behaviour for Vimeo videos. We now attempt to autoplay videos with the volume on (unmuted), knowing that some browsers may prevent the video from automatically playing.
