This guide walks you through the process of setting up the integration and explains the benefits it offers to your marketing strategy.
Key Benefits
Integrating 6sense with PathFactory offers several advantages that can significantly improve your ability to identify, engage, and convert target accounts:

Personalized Content Experiences
By leveraging 6sense segments within PathFactory, you can automatically deliver tailored content to visitors based on their account and where they are in the buying journey. This ensures that each visitor sees content that is highly relevant to their needs and interests.
Content Engagement Insights
The integration provides data on which accounts are interacting with your content and which content pieces are most effective. These insights help you refine your content strategy to better drive engagement and increase revenue.
Integration Process for 6sense API Customers
Now that you understand the benefits of integrating 6sense with PathFactory, let’s go over the steps involved in setting up this integration. This process involves configuring the API connection, creating segments in both 6sense and PathFactory, and syncing the two systems to ensure a smooth flow of data.
By completing the steps below, you’ll enable the exchange of information between 6sense and PathFactory, allowing you to leverage 6sense data and segments for personalized content experiences and detailed reporting.
Note: To enable this integration, you must have administrator level user permission for PathFactory.
There are three key steps to enable the 6sense API Integration with PathFactory:
Step 1: Enable the 6Sense API Connection in PathFactory.
Step 2: Create a Segment in 6sense.
Step 3: Create a Segment in PathFactory.
Step 1: Enable the 6sense API Connection in PathFactory
The first step is establishing the API connection between 6sense and PathFactory. This connection allows the two platforms to communicate, enabling you to sync account-level data from 6sense and use it to power PathFactory’s personalized content experiences.
To get started, follow these instructions to configure the API key and connect your 6sense data to PathFactory.
Note: This connection is the foundation of the integration, allowing you to seamlessly sync segments and data between the two systems.
- First, you need to generate or have an API key for 6sense. To generate your 6Sense API key, please contact your 6Sense CSM.
- Once you have the API key, log in to PathFactory and go to the Organization Settings menu.
6sense menu item - In the PathFactory Organization Settings menu, select the 6sense tab, as shown below.
- Paste or manually enter the API key into the 6sense API key field.
3. Finally, click Save to confirm the connection. Once this is step complete, the API integration between 6sense and PathFactory is established.
Step 2: Create a Segment in 6sense
With the API connection enabled, the next step is to create a segment in 6sense. Segments allow you to group accounts based on specific criteria such as industry, company size, or buying stage. These segments are key to delivering personalized content experiences in PathFactory.
When creating segments in 6sense, it’s a good practice to use clear and consistent naming conventions. This will make it easier to locate and manage your segments later, especially when accessing them within PathFactory.
For information on creating segments using 6sense, read Segments Overview in the 6sense knowledge base.
Below are two examples of consistent segment naming:
Buying Stage Segment
- FunnelStage_Target
- Decision_Stage_Tech_Companies
- Awareness_Stage_Retail_Prospects
Combined Criteria Segment
- Country_Industry_FunnelStage
- UK_Financial_Services_Consideration
- Canada_Manufacturing_DecisionStage
Step 3: Create a Segment in PathFactory
Once your segments are set up in 6sense, you’ll need to create corresponding segments in PathFactory. The good news is that PathFactory automatically detects the segments you create in 6sense, so there’s no need for manual input or syncing. You can simply add these segments to your PathFactory experiences.
Note: For a refresher on how to create segments, read How to Create, Edit, or Delete a Segment.

Segmentation Guidelines
There are a few things to keep in mind when managing segments:
- Segments with fewer than 100,000 accounts are selectable and syncable in PathFactory.
- New 6sense segments may take up to 24 hours to sync with PathFactory.
- Segments that aren’t used or viewed in 30 days will become inactive.
Note: You can reactivate segments by performing specific actions (editing, publishing, adding it to a campaign, or adding it to a segment) to reinstate them in the API response within 24 hours when applicable.
FAQs
Q: How are PathFactory segments different from 6sense segments?
A: PathFactory segments focus on organizing and targeting audiences for content personalization within PathFactory. They are based on user behavior, demographics, and engagement with your PathFactory content. In contrast, 6sense segments use predictive analytics and intent data to group accounts based on their behavior across multiple channels.
When you integrate the two, you can use 6sense’s advanced account insights to enhance PathFactory segments, leading to more personalized and relevant content experiences for your visitors.
Q: Can PathFactory segments be synced into 6sense?
A: No, PathFactory segments are used within the PathFactory platform for content personalization. However, engagement data from PathFactory experiences can be shared with 6sense through their tracking tools.
Q: Will this incur API calls?
A: Syncing segments does not count toward your API limit. However, when a web visitor is identified through 6sense, it will count as one API call per browsing session.
Next Step: Use PathFactory Segments in Destination Routes
With your PathFactory segments created, you can now leverage these segments to create Destination Routes. PathFactory’s Destination Routes feature gives you the ability to direct your visitors to different content tracks based on which visitor segments they belong to. Once you have created a route, you can use a single link to send visitors to content tracks that are tailored to them!
Read more about routes in How to Create, Edit, or Delete a Route.
