What is the difference between external code and external ID?

External Code: These are snippets of HTML or Javascript code that you can insert into your content experiences.

  • You can use your code to add additional tracking mechanisms to your content, to add a live chat script, or almost anything else that you’re able to program!

External ID: These are non-unique IDs that you can add to your content experiences or content assets. “Non-unique” means you can use the same external ID on multiple items.

  • You can use external IDs to help organize your content assets and experiences in whatever way is most beneficial to your organization.
  • This could mean using external IDs to tag content in a way that aligns with one of your external systems, to mark content as being part of a particular campaign, or in any other way you can think of that will help you clearly organize your PathFactory platform.
