AI-Assisted Auto Tagging in PathFactory automatically assigns tags to your content assets based on your company’s unique taxonomy. This feature streamlines organizing large content libraries by reducing manual tagging efforts, saving time, and ensuring consistent, accurate labels for better searchability, personalization, and reporting.
When you upload new content assets into PathFactory, AI-Assisted Auto Tagging efficiently applies the appropriate tags, keeping your content organized. This process is based on the Categories and Tags set up in your Content Library.
Below, you’ll find a summary of how AI-Assisted Auto Tagging works, followed by detailed instructions and screenshots to guide you through the setup and management of this feature.
- Prepare the Content Library for AI-Assisted Auto Tagging – because AI-Assisted Auto Tagging will be based upon taxonomy Categories and asset tags that your organization already has, you may want to review and revise your taxonomy before using this feature to ensure that AI tags reflect the Categories and Tags that will be most helpful in activating content strategy and personalization, managing content efficiently in your Library, and filtering reporting views for key insights.
Note: Tags that have been added to any asset manually will not be overwritten by AI-Assisted Auto Tagging. - Select Categories to include in AI-Assisted Auto Tagging – Select and enable Categories that you want to include for the AI-Assisted Auto Tagging of your Content Library.
- Run the AI-Assisted Auto Tagging – During the tagging process, PathFactory examines the Categories you have selected in your Content Library and applies appropriate tags from your taxonomy to the content assets. The duration of this process varies, taking anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the volume of Categories and assets being analyzed.
- Review and Manage Notifications – After AI-Assisted Auto Tagging is complete, a small notification will appear in the top navigation of the Content Library, to let you know there are tags that need manual intervention. You can review and adjust the AI-applied tags as needed.
Prepare the Content Library for AI-Assisted Auto Tagging
With the Content Library open, perform the following steps to prepare for AI tagging.
- Assess and refine the existing taxonomy in your PathFactory Content LIbrary, ensuring that it reflects the parent Categories and child Tags you want associated with each Category. For example, in a “Topic” Category, do the associated Tags reflect an up-to-date view of the Topics you focus on when creating content?Or, in a “Format” Category, you may need to add new asset format types as Tags. You may want to download a CSV file of your Categories and Tags for an easier review and update process For instructions on how to do this, refer to How to Download the Taxonomy of the Content Library.
- Eliminate redundant or overlapping tags to streamline the tagging process and improve searchability, for example combining into a single tag.
- Create Custom Categories that align to organizational specific attributes that you’d like to associate with your assets. Then populate tags within them as needed. Note that all Categories that have no Tags are automatically excluded from AI-Assisted Auto Tagging.
Select Categories to Include in AI-Assisted Auto Tagging
While AI-Assisted Auto Tagging offers a way to manage large volumes of content, it is equally important to optimize this process by selectively including and excluding certain Categories from AI-Assisted Auto Tagging.
Consider excluding Categories that are too abstract, such as “Business Unit” or “Strategic Initiative,” where AI may not have enough contextual clues within the content to accurately assign tags. These types of Categories often rely on internal knowledge, subjective interpretation, or high-level organizational structure, which the AI might not be able to discern from the text. In such cases, manual tagging by the marketer is advised as a best practice to ensure the tagging is precise and relevant.
Follow the steps below to mark Categories to include or exclude from AI-Assisted Auto Tagging.
- In the Platform Settings menu, select Content Tags.
- On the Content Tags Configuration menu, select a Category from the available options.
- If you would like to include the given Category in AI-Assisted Auto Tagging, activate the toggle as shown in the screen capture below. To exclude a Category, de-activate its toggle.
Note: Categories without any existing tags are automatically excluded from the AI tagging process.
- You’re now set to begin the AI-Assisted Auto Tagging process.
Run the AI-Assisted Auto Tagging
- To begin the AI-Assisted Auto Tagging, click Start AI Tagging in the Content Library as highlighted in the screen capture below.
Note: The time required for AI-Assisted Auto Tagging depends on the size of your Content Library. While individual assets can be processed in minutes, larger libraries may take a few hours.
- A popup menu opens, displaying a list of all of the taxonomy Categories from your Content Library. Activate the checkbox beside the Categories you want to tag using AI. To proceed, then click Tag My Content. To exit without saving, click Cancel.
- Once you click Tag My Content, AI-Assisted Auto Tagging begins.
- In the Content Library, you’ll see tag icons next to content assets within the Categories currently undergoing AI-Assisted Auto Tagging.
- When you add new content assets to the Content Library, AI tagging automatically applies the appropriate tags based on the Categories you specified to include in AI-Assisted Auto Tagging during the setup process. The content assets that have AI tags to review have a blue circle next to them as shown in the screen capture below.
Review and Manage Notifications
When AI Assisted Auto Tagging completes its tagging process, you may receive notifications about missing tags. Despite the sophisticated AI algorithms used to assign tags based on content characteristics and selected taxonomy Categories, AI may occasionally lack the context or explicit cues needed to apply tags in every Category. This is particularly true for content with nuanced or highly specific attributes. As a result, some assets might still lack required tags or have tags that need manual adjustment by the marketer as a follow up step to the automated tagging process. Notifications ensure you are aware of assets that require further human review and provide an opportunity to refine the tags applied to ensure accuracy.
Whenever manual input is needed for tagging a content asset, a red notification dot appears beside both the AI filter and the tag icon on the Quick Pane, as highlighted in the screen capture below.
To see details about the notifications about missing tags and manage the affected content assets, click on the AI Tags dropdown menu as highlighted in the screen capture below.
A menu opens with the following viewing options:
Recently Tagged: Review the assets that have been tagged in the past 24 hours. This option helps you quickly verify and adjust any newly applied AI-generated tags.
All Tagged: Access a comprehensive list of all tagged assets within your Library. This view is useful for a broad oversight of how content is categorized and managed.
Assets not tagged by AI: See a list of assets that AI did not automatically tag. This selection is crucial for pinpointing content that may require manual tagging or further review to ensure completeness.
All Missing Tags: Review all assets with missing tags. Addressing these ensures that your Content Library remains fully tagged, enhancing searchability and content management.
Required Missing Tags: Focus specifically on reviewing content assets that are missing mandatory tags. Prompt correction of these tags is essential to maintain the structural integrity and navigability of your Content Library.
